    Scope / Objective:

    The position of Data Scientist-Analytics reports into the Assistant Vice President of Technology Solutions. This role is pivotal to the Analytics function at the company.

    In this role the candidate will work closely with the reporting manager on a day-to-day basis to develop, disseminate and execute analytical methodologies for use at OSG worldwide. The candidate would be someone who loves to work with Rapid prototyping and rapid ideation and testing using various analytical tools and techniques of analytical hypothesis working collaboratively with customers in the Pharma industry.

    Key Responsibilities

    • End-to-End Analytical Service definition and key performance indicators ( like 1% acceleration of clinical trial recruitment, 1% reduction in clinical trial costs, root causes, effects, etc.)
    • Analytical service delivery including recommendation and usage of deep mathematical modeling techniques and statistical methods
    • Data sufficiency tests, data veracity and accuracy/precision evaluation to support or reject the hypothesis
    • Executive presentation based on sound analytics that SUPPORT or reject the working hypothesis
    • Change Recommendations to customer based on data-driven analytics; timing, value, impact, sensitivities, risks, mitigation plans, projected benefits 
    • Lessons learned on failure and effect analysis of new approaches

    Education / Experience / Skills Requirement

    The candidate in this role should have
    • Statistical, mathematical, predictive modelling as well as business strategy skills to build the algorithms necessary to ask the right questions and find the right answers.


    • Should be able to communicate their findings, orally and visually
    • Should understand how the products are developed and even more important, as big data touches the privacy of consumers, they need to have a set of ethical responsibilities.
    • Ideally 5+ years of relevant industry experience is desired ( not essential for a true thinker)

    Apart from the skills that big data scientists can learn in university, they also need to have a special set of personality traits.

    The candidate should be
    • Very curious person, who enjoy diving deep into the material to find an answer to a yet unknown question
    • Should have a natural desire to go beneath the surface of a problem.
    • Should be thinkers who can ask the right (business) questions.


    • Should be confident and self-secure as they more often than not will have to deal with situations where there is a lot unknown.
    • Should be patient as finding the unknown in massive data sets will take a lot of time and developing the algorithm to uncover new insights will often go by trial-and-error.


    • Should be able to see examples in totally different industries and be able to plot that on their current problem. (For example, the Los Angeles Police department uses an algorithm to predict earthquakes, to predict where crimes are likely to happen.

    )
    • Should understand how to integrate multiple systems and data sets.
    • Should be able to link and mash up distinctive data sets to discover new insights.

    This often requires connecting different types of data sets in different forms as well as being able to work with potentially incomplete data sources and cleaning data sets to be able to use them.

    The big data scientist should be able to program, preferably in different programming languages such as Python, R, Java, Ruby, Clojure, Matlab, Pig or SQL.

    An understanding of Hadoop, Hive and/or MapReduce is required. In addition the need to be familiar with disciplines such as:
    • Natural Language Processing: the interactions between computers and humans;
    • Machine learning: using computers to improve as well as develop algorithms;
    • Conceptual modelling: to be able to share and articulate modelling;
    • Statistical analysis: to understand and work around possible limitations in models;
    • Predictive modelling: most of the big data problems are towards being able to predict future outcomes;
    • Hypothesis testing: being able to develop hypothesis and test them with careful experiments.

    The exact background of a big data scientist is of less importance. Great big data scientists can have different backgrounds such as econometrics, physics, biostatistics, computer science, applied mathematics or engineering.

    Most of the time the background is a Master’s Degree or even PhD. However, to be successful big data scientists should have at least some of the following capabilities:
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
    • Being able to work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment as in a competitive landscape new data keeps flowing in rapidly and the world is constantly changing;
    • Having the ability to query databases and perform statistical analysis;
    • Being able to develop or program databases;
    • Being able to advice senior management in clear language about the implications of their work for the organization;
    • Having an, at least basic, understanding of how a business and strategy works;
    • Being able to create examples, prototypes, demonstrations to help management better understand the work;
    • Having a good understanding of design and architecture principles;
    • Being able to work autonomously.


    • In short, the big data scientist needs to have an understanding of almost everything. Depending on the industry the big data scientist wants to work, they will need to specialize even further as for example a marine big data specialist requires a different set of skills than a historical big data scientist.

In addition to its routine role in cancer management, PET-CT also is being used for cardiology, neurology, infection and inflammatory disease applications.

     

    Despite the potentials of PET-CT imaging technology in cancer management, the growth of this modality in India has been very slow and still remains elusive for many patients. A cancer patient in India today spends on an average Rs.

    18,000-25,000/- for a PET-CT study in a private diagnostic centre or a hospital. The cost of the scan being high and unaffordable by the large segment of cancer patients, most of the referring oncologists and consultants therefore hesitate and avoid recommending PET-CT investigations to patients genuinely deserving and likely to benefit from the study.

     

    As a social responsibility, “Nueclear” has a vision and focus, namely, to reach and provide affordable and accessible PET-CT imaging services to patients throughout the country. As a first step towards this mission of pan India “Networked Imaging Centres”, Nueclear commissioned its first PET-CT imaging center at Mumbai in March 2013, followed by Delhi in January 2014 and Hyderabad in June 2014.
